2024 Stamp Out Hunger Drive

GRAND JUNCTION, CO (May 8, 2024) – The Community Food Bank of Grand Junction, an independent food pantry serving Mesa County neighbors without exclusion since 1978, will be a recipient of nonperishable food donations collected during the 2024 Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive hosted on Saturday, May 11, 2024, by the National Letter Carriers of America.

The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive began in 1993 and has grown into the largest one-day food drive in America. On the second Saturday in May, residents are encouraged to fill bags with non-perishable foods and place them next to their mailbox. Local mail carriers then collect these bags during their normal mail routes to then be distributed to local food banks and pantries. The Community Food Bank of Grand Junction will be one of a number of recipients of this year’s donations collected in the Grand Valley.

Community Food Bank of Grand Junction is an independent food pantry serving neighbors in Mesa County and does not require any qualifications to utilize the pantry’s services. Neighbors enjoy a grocery shopping-style experience to choose the foods which best suit their needs and the needs of their families. Community Food Bank focuses on providing fresh produce, eggs, dairy, and meat sourced from local farmers and producers to ensure all neighbors have access to nutritious, high-quality foods.

Food insecurity is a prominent challenge for Mesa County, and across the state. Over 14 percent of residents in the Grand Valley do not have consistent access to sufficient food to sustain their family’s health. Over 50 percent of children in District 51 qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. The Community Food Bank of Grand Junction has seen a fourfold increase in service needs since 2019, making events like the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive essential to supporting the needs of Mesa County neighbors in need.

Don’t forget to put out donations to support this community-wide effort!! Volunteers are still needed to assist with collection and sorting of food donations on Saturday – if anyone is interested they can email: volunteer@foodbankgj.org
