March 2024 - Terry F.

Two women stand in front of a desk. The woman on the right has a jean material shirt on with short brown hair. The woman on the left has a blue sweater and short brown hair. Both are smiling.

Help us congratulate Terry F. for being our March 2024 Volunteer of the Month! Here’s a little bit about Terry:

1. Are you from the valley?  If not, where? and what brought you here? I have lived on the Western Slope for over 40 years. Originally, I was in Aspen for 25 years. Then moved to Denver for 10 years until my husband retired. We had a 1904 Victorian we remodeled in Palisade. It took us all 10 years from Denver to do this! After completing this project, we decided to sell. No more maintenance, my husband said!

2. What is your favorite thing about the Grand Valley? Less traffic than in Denver. However, we enjoy the mild weather and friends we’ve made. Several Aspen friends now live in the valley.

3. What do you like to do when you're not at the Food Bank? I enjoy cooking, gardening, and canning when the seasons are active. I like to give away food once I cook. Keeps me slimmer!! We travel to Europe and Ireland a lot. Our children live in Ireland. Road trips are my husband’s favorite pastime, so we do a lot of that as well.

4. What motivated you to get involved in the Food Bank, and how long have you been volunteering with us? I told a friend when I first retired, I was getting bored. She suggested that I try out the Food Bank. I’ve never looked back! I’ve enjoyed all the past and present family of co-workers and directors. I love meeting the clients and hearing their stories. I have been at the Food Bank for over 4 years. Working during Covid was a test for everyone. We made it through with flying colors and car fume exhaust!!

5. Anything else you'd like to share with the rest of the awesome volunteer team? This is a dedicated team of co-workers. Everyone pitches in whenever needed and never fails to keep their attitudes positive and uplifting. I love coming and seeing the wonderful progress our staff and co-workers have made daily and over the years. Everyone is determined to keep improving the Food Bank and its resources. Very inspirational for me!
