October 2023 - Jeanine H.

Help us congratulate Jeanine H. for being our October 2023 Volunteer of the Month! Here’s a little bit about Jeanine:

1.  Are you from the valley?  If not, where? and what brought you here? I am not from this valley, but from Rio Grande Valley in South Texas (4 hours south of San Antonio on the Texas-Mexico border). I moved to Grand Junction from Asheville, NC in early June 2023 to be close to my 2 grandchildren, who also moved here from NC around the same time as I did. 

2. What is your favorite thing about the Grand Valley? The geography, the weather, and the amazing opportunities for outdoor experiences.

3.  What do you like to do when you're not at the Food Bank? Hike and explore the area! 

4.  What motivated you to get involved in the Food Bank, and how long have you been volunteering with us? Before I retired from Haywood County Health and Human Services in North Carolina, my Health Ed. department collaborated with the local County Extension staff. Retired and new to the area I reached out to the CSU Ag Extension staff and got connected with CFB tasting efforts. I've been volunteering with CFB for ~4 months. 

5.  Anything else you'd like to share with the rest of the awesome volunteer team?  Volunteering is a great way for me to feel part of the community and stay active in retirement. I thoroughly enjoy working with CFB staff-they are kind, young, and vibrant. They energize me!
