Help us congratulate Fred B. for being our May 2024 Volunteer of the Month! Here’s a little bit about Fred:

1.  Are you from the valley?  If not, where? and what brought you here? I am not from the valley; however we have been here so long it seems like I have always lived here. I am from Storm Lake Iowa , and a job opportunity brought us here. 

2. What is your favorite thing about the Grand Valley? It is a great place to raise our children, the climate and the outdoor activities. And always a spirit of community with caring people, ready to step in and help. 

3.  What do you like to do when you're not at the Food Bank? Other volunteer work, I love gardening, listening to sports, and having family come down to see us now with two wonderful grandsons. I like keeping up with the news and the latest scientific accomplishments. I enjoy going to the Center for Independence, learning to adjust my visual challenges. It is always fun connecting with friends and family! 

4.  What motivated you to get involved in the Food Bank, and how long have you been volunteering with us? I learned about it through my wife who suggested I attend a meeting regarding the formation of the Food Bank with her. I was totally behind the idea and saw the need. I was involved on and off ever since! Then after retiring I have been a volunteer for so many years, I am not sure how many around 22 years. I look forward to coming every week! 

5.  Anything else you'd like to share with the rest of the awesome volunteer team?   I love all the volunteers and staff; everyone is so caring and dedicated to providing a positive and welcoming experience for all who come to the Community Food Bank in need of assistance. This has been true through all the years with location and procedure changes and improvements.
